When life gives you oranges...

"So it's been decided that boys are silly & we're all going to fail our next neuro exam. Epp!"... that was my/my roomies mentality a couple of days ago.... today i/ we are doing better.

Neuro has been rough. Mainly because we have a test ever 2 weeks (from mid-March to the end of May), and somehow nobody got nearly enough studying done this weekend....in other news:

Samir and I had our last salsa class last night! sad! We did learn three new moves called "the naughty", "the high step", and something where he lifts me completely off the ground!! it was quite fun and yes, everyone giggled at seeing and then practicing "the naughty" in class (actually a quick and easy move but looks intense and um close haha). But i'm soo glad we took that class! it was sooo fun & helped me to keep my sanity, to remember that i am more than just a medical student. it also made me relax in the rest of my life since in salsa all the woman can do is follow...it has helped me to live in the moment and not always think about whats next.

Theeen, around 11pm I went to cheer on Giulia at our coed intramural soccer game. A bunch of the m2s came out with signs & we had a lot of fun (even though they lost (as did the spurs :( ))

Happy things:
seeing horses eating hay in the morning
ibuprofen
roommates
cookies and cream ice cream
"snook"

post neuro exam 2

I'm going to be sneaking away this Thursday...i am quite excited to be studying on the beach on Friday...

Today (Wed), everyone woke up with allergies! It's so sad! Ben and Mike are nearly drowning but when I spilled tea on my computer Ben gave me some of his towels (tissues) to clean it up! so nice. So I got him some real tissues hahaha

I am quite excited because I just found out I can apply for funds from my medical school to support my trip to Ecuador this summer...yay! (fingers crossed and praying bc that would be awesome!)

I've realized pretty recently that I have been moving waaay fast over the last year. Through major events and people alike. So I told myself to just slow down and live in the moment. Not to be constantly planning what's next but just be happy in now. ...that's going well so far :)
Also, I've realized that I have matured a lot over the past year especially in how I view men and relationships. Interesting stuff.

...oh and by the way, as soon as a girl stops trying, it seems that boys start coming around...not in any strong way but let's just say hugs are nice.

check out these cloud cookies!!

Bueno

p.s. I just have to quickly amend my last post. said ex in that post is dumb. and so i've resolved to act like he doesn't exist...hahahaha things that are much better than silly boys: (although its still fun to chat with the cute ones!)

Having a Global Health meeting a lunch & remembering what an amazing opportunity I have to be a female physician and work to do good(...i have already had waay more opportunities to do whatever i want to do than say a girl born in rural Nepal who is not able to go to school because she has to work the fields and help raise her) siblings

Suturing pig's feet & learning how to set up IVs, NGs tube and urethral catheters!!

Red Wine Sangria Recipe

Tulip Fields!!

p.s. from Animal Review: "Furthermore, when honey bees sting, they release – along with their venom – an alarm pheromone5 called iso-amyl acetate that, curiously, smells like bananas. The pheromone is a chemical signal for other bees to attack. Because if there’s anything killer bees hate more than felt flags, it’s a non-banana that still stinks like a banana. It just makes them completely insane."

When you bake a boy a cake...

...you will wait two days for him to pick it up before you cut into it. you will realize how silly it was to bake a double layer, delicious chocolate cake. and put it in a baking box so you can carry it. and decorate it with marshmallows because he mentioned that he liked them. and at midnight, with some vanilla ice cream and wine, you and your two wonderful roommates will eat the moist chocolate cake. and you will be happy. and remember that boys are dumb and not to pay them too much attention.

...and you will wake up the next day & go to class with a new founded determination to just focus on school. on much more important things. and JUST then your ex will show up everywhere you go (out of nowhere). Great....

my life was soo much easier when my ex decided to not go to school or visit the outside world for the better part of a month...now for some strange reason he's decided to rejoin society and thus i see him at school again...so this morning went more like this:

wake up waaay too early.
shuffle into class.
listen about viruses and neuroscience and cerebellums that look like clams.
try to pay attention.
check every website that i can think of.
try to pay attention.
10 min break. go to the lru.
class.
break. walk around.
pass by him. he tries to say some clever way of saying hi.
i smile back a hello. sigh.
go back to class.
try to pay attention.
think about eating my lunch while the professor talks about 3 lobules.

...seriously not too different from my usual days minus the smiling and sighing...sigh. i was pretty happy with talking with my friends/ cute guys and not having to be effected by a boy when he walks into the room no matter how much i try not to let him effect me. darn.

good things:

girl talk at midnight with some wine
horses around hay barrel at 8am
strawberry banana yogurt
virus lectures
pretzel fish (always a win)

Pandas get an F
an excerpt from the above website, about jellyfish:

"Comprised of about 95% water (and 0% brain) jellyfish can be found in stable populations throughout the world’s oceans, from top to bottom and also in freshwater. And there are at least 2,000 different species. And they accomplished all of this without the benefit of an iPad. Impressive."

Secret Loves.

On this cloudy, dreary Wednesday I feel like being cozy and staying at home...but no studying ever gets done there so I'm back in the library :) pretty cozy too.

I have a few secret loves. Promise not to tell anyone, k?

1) Telekinesis! = this new band my friend Ben showed me who happen to be awesome. My fav two songs by them= Coast of Carolina & Foreign Room. also this video is pretty funny:

2) Hollister...I have a secret love of the dimly lit store that plays laid back music I always like and have clothes just small enough to fit me and cute enough to wear with anything. cozy store.

3) flavored sodas...like right now i'm craving a cherry coke.

4) periodic tables...this probably comes from sitting in countless Biology and Chemistry lecture halls where these tables where in everyroom <3
Scientists Discover Heavy New Element

5) fuzzy dogs (not really a secret but i just realized i'm a huge fool for scruffy dogs like labradoodles or dapple daschunds...oh and probably the same is true for guys...like Jamie Oliver :)

P.S.
Today is going to be an interesting day...
it looks more like Seattle here than Seattle probably does. gray clouds. apically growing pine trees. and very subdued but content music.

Updates:
I am the new president of the Catholic Medical Student Association at our med school. yay!

I will officially be doing a pediatric preceptorship (paid too!) in San Antonio during June. yay home!

Home

Last night I pulled the best April Fool's joke ever! (keep in mind i'm pretty lame at em)

Post-test, I left CS around 5:30pm and arrived in SA around 8:30... as I got near the house, I told my mom I was going to a party in CS...then I pulled up to the house and texted her "just kidding, I'm outside!" haha my folks were totally surprised!

Today, since everyone had to work on Friday still, I slept in 'till 10am! soo nice! Then I practiced being a delinquent dog owner. You see, a new puppy has moved in behind our house & da' whites loves it! so he and the others dogs get riled up chasing the puppy siberrian husky, shiba, all across the fence. She even started barking at him! and the poor whites can't bark to save his life so all that came out of him was a poor wimpering gurgle thing hahahaha!

and though the dogs were barking and I should have been carroling them inside, I hung out by the fence and took pictures of the dogs. and stopped mr. white from digging a hole to china to get to shiba... then i heard the neighbor come outside and i froze and made a be quiet hand sign to the dogs like they knew what i was doing!

so after letting the dogs wear themselves out, I drove around 1604 and galm with the windows down and ended up at my favorite scrapbooking store! then Michael's and then home, where I met my mom and we went to Target! When my dad got off work, we headed to Salsalitos and ate our last meat-free lenten Friday dinner of the season. And then we went to see "The Last Song"!! where i proceeded to cry my eyes out! in between sighing at the gorgeous trees and beach scenes that line the carolina-georgia coast <3

I love being home. I love my family. (...and this tank is really cute!)
