Good Vibrations

My future is wide open & I am ready to accept anything that comes my way

...in other news, look at this cute puppy!

I found it through a link at a blog called A Cup of Jo ...which has randomly super links! Great for a laugh and/or killing some time!

Speaking of killing time...
The dogs pretty much dessimated Mr. White's stuffed animal...

And for no reason at all other than just having a little fun, Greg, Mickey, and I went on a picnic! It was wonderful! We set out a blanket in the middle of a field and ate turkey sandwhiches and watermelon...but it was very hot, so we didn't stay long...you can see the heat on Mickey's face, the only time he acts like a dog is when he is panting! fun!

Hope you're enjoying summer too!

Budget for the spices

I recently read an NYTimes article giving grad advice, and one of the best bits was left as commentary but said:

1) Use it or lose it– you’ll never have the same opportunities tomorrow that you do today. Tomorrow (whether 24 hours from now or some nebulous future thirty years from now) will be different. -You- will be different. Take the opportunity today to love, laugh, and share your gifts. (After you turn fifty, you’ll understand and thank me.)
2) Budget for the spices first. An inexpensive lifestyle is always a bland lifestyle– whether food, entertainment, clothing, or what have you. So budget for spices because “Spices” can make a cheap lifestyle into something enjoyable…
3) Don’t rest on your laurels– Live a creative and productive life. By that I mean: you need to create more than you consume. That you give back to the world and society more than you may take. That the world and the society in which you live is a better and more beautiful, joyful place because you are willing to create that goodness and betterment. To be only a consumer of goods and services and not a creator-producer of hope, joy, and beauty is to make the world a darker and drearier place.
4) They can’t take your belly button. Remember this when times get hard or you make an honest mistake. Trust me, you will get to keep it."

I love it! Especially preparing to be broke in medical school, I keep thinking about budgeting for spices...so I started selling my books! Mainly my old textbooks, leftovers from my undergrad (still can't believe I'm old enough to say that!)...but in high school I was "The most likely to move to Spain & open a bookstore"...so I am working on part of that :)

Also, my mom was sweet & bought me a fun read for our vacation next week, looks wonderfully silly:
